A brief description of the 2014 Carcassonne day tour


Participants will have the undivided attention of author and scholar James McDonald on a discovery of the largest surviving Medieval walled city in Europe. You will enjoy an unforgettable experience.  James’ erudition and ability to explain complex histories will enable an understanding that will surprise yourself and reveal facets of the Cité most visitors miss.
In the Cité learn about the Cathar Crusade, The Viscounts of Carcassonne, siege warfare, castles, the personalities and the Inquisition at Carcassonne

At the Basilica discover The death & burial of Simon de Montfort, Simon’s memorial & the The Song of the Crusade, and Saint Dominic, who established and operated the first Papal Inquisition and Carcassonne’s resistance to the Inquisition

The Château Comtal includes exhibits on personalities of the Crusade, the architect who saved Carcassonne from ruin, the Viscounts of Carcassonne, Castle architecture and defence, Archaeology and a visit to the Castle ramparts.

Groups of maximum seven participants including  a good lunch, the undivided attention of your guide and a special aperatif at the Hotel de la Cite.
